Safety Center
Version 2026-10-25
Psst is built for the most cautious guest in the room. This page explains how Psst protects you, what you can do at any moment, and where to get help. It applies in every state and every venue, whatever local law requires.
How Psst is designed to keep you safe
- Presence, not location. Psst never asks for your location and never tracks it. You only appear to people inside the same venue on the same night, because the wristband you claimed at the door proves you are there.
- Anonymous until it's mutual. Saying psst is anonymous. Nobody learns who said psst to them unless they say it back. There is no "who viewed me" list, no read receipts, no last-seen time and no distance.
- No free text before a mutual match. Before you both say psst, the only words anyone can send are short, curated lines approved by Psst. Chat opens only after a mutual match.
- Traceable photos. Every photo you see carries an invisible mark made for your account alone. It does not show on the photo, but if someone shares a screenshot, Psst can trace it back to the account it was shown to. The Psst app blocks screenshots and screen recordings on iPhone and Android (they come out blank) and blurs its preview in the app switcher. Browsers cannot block screenshots, so on the web the mark is the protection.
- Real photos. A profile photo shows the member: a selfie taken in the app or a photo of them from their library. Photos are checked before anyone else can see them, automatically and, when the check is unsure, by Psst's safety team. Names and bios are checked too. Psst does not create or keep a face template.
- The night expires. At the end of the night, profiles leave browse. Chats from matches that were not saved by both people are deleted 24 hours later.
- Blocks are permanent and work everywhere. A block hides you from each other at every venue, on every future night, even if either of you uses a new wristband or a new nickname.
- Bans stick. An account banned by Psst cannot come back with the same Apple or Google account, and a new account from the same phone or email waits for Psst's safety team before it can go live.
Psst does not run criminal background checks or identity checks on members. The venue checks IDs at the door; Psst relies on that check for age.
In the venue: help is one tap away
Safety lives in the app's Settings → Help and rules, in Psst's own colors. It always offers the same three options:
- Report — tell us about someone, by their profile, from a chat, or by the number on their wristband. The person is blocked for you right away. If they are in the venue with you, the venue's security team is alerted with their band number and table.
- Call staff — sends an alert with your band number and table to the venue's security devices. Use it whenever you want someone from the venue to come to you.
- Go invisible — hides your profile from browse immediately. Your existing matches and chats keep working. You can reappear until the night ends.
Ask for Angela. Many venues use a code phrase you can say to any member of staff if you feel unsafe and want discreet help. Venues that take part show their phrase in the app; staff are trained to respond without drawing attention.
In an emergency, call 911. The Emergency · 911 link in Settings → Help and rules calls 911 from your phone. Psst does not contact emergency services for you and does not dispatch anyone.
Safety tips for tonight
- Keep your drink with you, watch it being poured, and don't accept a drink you didn't see made.
- Stay in the public areas of the venue with someone you just met.
- Trust your instincts. You never owe anyone a reply, a dance, a drink or your time. An unanswered psst is an answer.
- Let a friend know where you are and when you plan to leave.
- Plan your own way home before the night starts.
Links, money and scams
- Psst does not let anyone send short links that hide where they lead, payment requests (including $cashtags), links to paid content or link collections, or links to a bare IP address.
- Nobody can send you a link until you have written back to them.
- Any other link shows a caution under it. Only open links from people you trust.
- Nobody from Psst or from the venue will ever ask you for money, a code or your password in a chat.
Photos on the wall
- Only photograph people who said yes. The camera screen reminds everyone of this.
- If you are in a photo and did not agree, open the post's menu and choose I'm in this photo: it is hidden for everyone at once while Psst reviews it.
- The venue keeps the night's wall in its archive; posts removed by their author or hidden this way are deleted.
- A venue can share chosen photos and announcements to Psst's public wall for 30 days, credited only to the venue and the date. To keep all your posts in the room, turn off "Venues may share my wall posts" in Settings; to take one post back, open it on the public wall. "I'm in this photo" works there too.
Meeting someone after the night
- Meet in a public place for the first few dates, and get there and back on your own.
- Tell a friend who you are meeting, where and when.
- Keep personal details — your address, your workplace, your financial information — to yourself until you know someone well.
- Never send money or gift cards to someone you met through Psst, for any reason.
- Video-call before meeting if you want to be sure the person is who they say they are.
- If something feels wrong, leave, and report the person in the app.

What happens after a report
- The person is blocked for you immediately and disappears from your browse, inbox and connections.
- If they are in the venue with you, venue security receives an alert with their band number and table. Staff can disable their wristband remotely, which ends their night and hides their profile while keeping evidence for review.
- Psst's safety team reviews every report. Accounts that are reported at two different venues, or three times in one night, are suspended automatically pending review.
- Reports are confidential. We never tell the reported person who reported them.
- Making false reports to harm someone breaks our Community Guidelines.
Reports about suspected underage guests go to Psst's safety team at once and are reviewed with priority; if the person is in the venue with you, the venue's security team is alerted too.
